Voices Voices was a joint collaboration between the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics and Migrant Voices to celebrate International Human Rights Day and International Migrants Day on the 10th and 18th of December respectively. Playing to a full house on both days, it depicted the journey of a domestic worker from her home town, to Singapore and her experience here.
SOIL SOIL was a forum theatre piece that depicted the lives of 2 characters in 2 plays. The Story of Shah was about a construction worker and his unfortunate experience whilst the Story of Atin was about a domestic worker who was stuck in a predicament. Forum theatre is an interactive form of theatre that allows the audience to experience being the shoes of the characters, offering alternative solutions to social issues. Do look out for our re-staging of this piece in 2007.
Integrate Integrate was Migrant Voices' first event as a society and featured Migrant Voices' very own Himalaya, Richard, Jegan & Divine Sutra performing on the Timbre Stage. It also featured a interactive art piece called the Web of Friendship which was held at the Substation gallery.
This was a youth leadership forum organized in conjunction with Youth Month in July. Migrant Voices was one the the participating groups. For the opening, the ladies of HOME, also one of the participating groups, cooked a sumptuous home-cooked meal for the delegates. Our very own Sha Najak and Ruby Pan carried out a workshop at the Singapore Management University on the last day of the event to tell people about Migrant Voices and our cause. The organisers of 1-Degree also invited our performing groups to perform at their gala dinner held at the Conrad Centennial Singapore Ballroom. Ruby Cana and Art were the stars for the night, impressing people with their showmanship as well as their incredible talents.
Migrant Voices CD Launch This was the climax of the Migrant Voices CD project that kicked off all the buzz for Migrant Voices. People from all walks of life came down for the performances which were held over 3 nights, 2 of which included MFG's local bands. The proceeds from that day went to the 6 beneficiaries and the performers, then Darul Arqam, Tinig Pinoy, Singsaderd, HOME and Divine Sutra all strutted their stuff in Migrant Voices' first showcase.
