Month of Photography Asia 2010: Inside Out III

2 July to 31 July 2010
Alliance Francaise Level 2 Foyer

No child dreams of becoming a maid or a construction worker. But driven by poverty and a lack of opportunities, waves of Asians take on such work every year. In Singapore, migrant workers build our infrastructure, clean our homes and help raise our children. But we know little of their stories and the dreams that inspire them.

Co-presented by Objectifs, Migrant Voices and Month of Photography Asia for the second year running, InsideOut is a project that aims to allow the audience to see Singapore through the eyes of migrant workers to foster mutual understanding. The workers learnt photography with volunteers over a period of 2 months and documented their lives with digital compact cameras.

The project started out as a one-off project for the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2006 where a group of photojournalists came together to teach migrant workers how to tell stories with their photos. The project was revived in 2009 for the Month of Photography Asia.

We are continuing this project and hoep to make this an annual event. But we need your help! If you have old digital cameras (minimum 3.2 to 5 Megapixels) that you can donate, please drop us an email at support@migrantvoices.org.

Also, we are looking for more opportunities to display InsideOut. So do drop us an email if you are keen.
